Automatic Formation Flight

„Automatic Formation Flight“ is a research project that is funded by the German Research Foundation. The goal is to develop an automatic flight control system that enables an aircraft to save fuel by flying in the vortex upwash generated by a leading aircraft. more to: Automatic Formation Flight

Project AlphaLink


At Project AlphaLink, a novel aircraft concept for so-called High-Altitude Platforms (HAP) is examined under flight mechanical and flight control aspects. In this concept, several individual aircraft form an aircraft formation with a large wingspan. They are coupled to each other using joints at the wing tips. Due to the large wingspan, the induced drag is significantly reduced. Since the joints do not transfer any bending moments, this concept has a significant advantage compared to conventional concepts with a continuous wing. more to: Project AlphaLink


Arbeit am Versuchsträger
