The module consists of the two courses Aeroelasticity I and Aeroelasticity II. In Aeroelastics I the basics of flexible structures in air are taught. Here the aeroelastic triangle is introduced as the basis for the consideration of aeroelastic problems. Afterwards static and dynamic aeroelastic problems are considered. The modelling of structural dynamics and aerodynamics is introduced and then both aspects are coupled together. Furthermore, the basics of the modal approach and flutter calculation are taught. In Aeroelasticity II the focus is on multi-body dynamics. Here the kinematic relationships of rigid bodies are introduced. Subsequently, the coupling between flight mechanics and aeroelastics is performed to calculate loads for flexible aircraft structures. The modelling of gust loads is discussed in detail and analysis methods in the time and frequency domain are discussed. Furthermore, the field of aeroservoelasticity, as the coupling between structural dynamics, aerodynamics & inertial forces with the control of the aircraft, is discussed in the lectures. The course concludes with a consideration of landing gear loads.
